Text of article effective on April 01, 2027 Art. 49A.056. REQUIRED NOTICE OF DEATH IN PENAL INSTITUTION.
(a)If a person confined in a penal institution dies, the sheriff or other person in charge of the penal institution shall as soon as practicable provide notice of the death to the justice of the peace of the precinct in which the penal institution is located.
(b)This article does not apply to a death that occurs in a facility operated by or under contract with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
