(a)In counties desiring to provide such insurance coverage for employees and officials, the county legislative body or other governing body of the county shall appoint a committee of the county legislative body or other governing body of the county to carry out the intent of this part.

(b)Such committee shall prepare and present for approval a contract or contracts with one (1) or more insurance companies, or other corporations which may exist under title 56, chapter 27, 28, or 29 authorized to do business in the state, or with one (1) or more insurance trusts which have contracted with an insurance company, or companies, or corporation, as set out above, authorized to do business in the state for a policy or policies of group insurance to provide for the payment of group life, hospitali

(b) Such committee shall prepare and present for approval a contract or contracts with one (1) or more insurance companies, or other corporations which may exist under title 56, chapter 27, 28, or 29 authorized to do business in the state, or with one (1) or more insurance trusts which have contracted with an insurance company, or companies, or corporation, as set out above, authorized to do business in the state for a policy or policies of group insurance to provide for the payment of group life, hospitalization, disability, or medical expenses for county employees and officials. Such approval shall be by a majority vote of the county legislative body or other governing body of the county and shall be executed in the name of the county by the county mayor. (c) Such contracts may from time to time be amended, modified, or changed by a majority vote of the county legislative body or other governing body of the county. (d) The policy or policies shall conform to the standard provisions of group insurance policies as set forth in this code. (e) In any county having a population of not less than one hundred seven thousand one hundred (107,100) nor more than one hundred seven thousand two hundred (107,200), according to the 2000 federal census or any subsequent federal census, the provisions and requirements of the County Purchasing Law of 1957, compiled in title 5, chapter 14, part 1, shall not apply to the county legislative body or any committee of the county legislative body either responsible for presentment or approval of a contract pursuant to this part.
