(a)The county mayor or a delegated committee of the governing body may prepare and present to the governing body for approval a contract or contracts with one (1) or more insurance companies or other corporations which may exist under title 56, chapter 27, 28, or 29 authorized to do business in the state of Tennessee, or to one (1) or more insurance trusts which have contracted with an insurance company or companies or corporations, as set out above, authorized to do business in this state for a policy or policies of group insurance to provide for the payment of group life, hospitalization, disability, or medical expenses for designated county employees.
