§ 34A-6-93 — Infectious waste defined.

South Dakota·Title 34A ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION·Ch. 34A-4 SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

For purposes of this chapter, the term, infectious waste, means medical waste that contains any disposable equipment, instruments, utensils, human tissue, laboratory waste, blood specimens, or substances that carry pathogenic organisms from rooms of patients who have been diagnosed or are suspected of having a communicable disease; disposable substances that carry pathogenic organisms; and surgical operating room pathogenic specimens or substances that carry pathogenic organisms. The following do not constitute infectious waste:

(1)Hazardous waste;
(2)Household waste or household - type waste generated in a facility;
(3)Ash from incineration of regulated medical waste;
(4)Residues from treatment and destruction processes once the waste has been both treated and stored;
