§ 9-31-6. Attorney general to appear.
In any action pursuant to this chapter against the state of Rhode Island, the attorney
            general, or any assistant attorney general authorized by him or her, shall represent
            the state in the action. The attorney general is authorized to compromise or settle
            any claim cognizable under this chapter after the institution of suit thereon, with
            the approval of the court in which the suit is pending.
