§ 8-8-4. Habeas corpus.
The district court may issue writs of habeas corpus to bring before it any person
            in jail for trial in any civil or criminal case pending in the court, or to bring
            in any such person to be examined as a witness in a suit or proceeding, civil or criminal,
            pending in the court, that the ends of justice may be attained, and for no other purpose.
