§ 14-1-20. Release or placement of child in custody of officer.

Whenever any officer takes a child into custody, he or she shall, unless it is impracticable or has been otherwise ordered by the court, accept the written promise of the parent, guardian, or other custodian of the child to bring the child to the court at the time fixed. Upon that promise the child may be released in the custody of a parent, guardian, or other custodian. If not so released, the child shall be placed in the custody of a probation counselor or other person designated by the court, or shall immediately be taken to the court or other place of detention designated by the cou
