(a)Class A and Class A-3 membership.--
(1)A State employee who is a member of Class A on the effective date of this part or who first becomes a member of the system subsequent to the effective date of this part and before January 1, 2011, or before December 1, 2010, as a member of the General Assembly, shall be classified as a Class A member and receive credit for Class A service upon payment of regular and additional member contributions for Class A service, provided that the State employee does not become a member of Class AA pursuant to subsection (a.1) or a member of Class D-4 pursuant to subsection (a.2) or a member of Class A-5 or Class A-6 or solely a participant in the plan under section 5306.5 (relating to election by active members to become a Class A-5 member, Class A-6 membe
