* § 404-y. Distinctive plates for veterans of the Iraq War and\nveterans of the Afghanistan War.
1.Any veteran of the Iraq War or the\nAfghanistan War residing in this state or the spouse of any such veteran\nshall, upon request, be issued a license plate bearing the words\n"Veteran of the Iraq War" or "Veteran of the Afghanistan War". If a\ndistinctive plate is issued to a veteran pursuant to this section, such\na distinctive plate shall not be issued to the spouse of such veteran.\nApplication for said license plate shall be filed with the commissioner\nin such form and detail as the commissioner shall prescribe.\n 2. The distinctive plates authorized in subdivision one of this\nsection shall be issued upon proof, satisfactory to the commissioner,\nthat the applicant or the spouse of

For the purposes of this section, the following terms shall have\nthe following meanings:\n (a) "Veteran of the Iraq War" shall mean a person who is a resident of\nthis state, who served in the armed forces of the United States in the\nhostilities that occurred in Iraq from the sixteenth day of October, two\nthousand two to the end of such hostilities who (i) was discharged\ntherefrom under other than dishonorable conditions or (ii) has a\nqualifying condition, as defined in section one of the veterans'\nservices law, and has received a discharge other than bad conduct or\ndishonorable from such service, or (iii) is a discharged LGBT veteran,\nas defined in section one of the veterans' services law, and has\nreceived a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from such\nservice; and\n (b) "Veteran of the Afghanistan War" shall mean a person who is a\nresident of this state, who served in the armed forces of the United\nStates in the hostilities that occurred in Afghanistan from the seventh\nday of October, two thousand one to the end of such hostilities who (i)\nwas discharged therefrom under other than dishonorable conditions or\n(ii) has a qualifying condition, as defined in section one of the\nveterans' services law, and has received a discharge other than bad\nconduct or dishonorable from such service, or (iii) is a discharged LGBT\nveteran, as defined in section one of the veterans' services law, and\nhas received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from\nsuch service.\n 4. A distinctive plate issued pursuant to this section shall be issued\nin the same manner as other number plates upon payment of the regular\nregistration fee prescribed by section four hundred one of this article\nprovided, however, that an additional one time service charge of ten\ndollars shall be charged for such plate.\n * NB There are 6 § 404-y's\n
