§ 384-a. Additional pension benefits for certain police officers after\ntwenty-five years of service.
a.In the event a member of the police\nforce of the village of Hempstead, in the county of Nassau, who is\ncontributing to the retirement system under section three hundred\neighty-four of this chapter, shall continue in service after twenty-five\nyears of total creditable police service under such section in such\nforce, he or she shall receive, upon retirement, in addition to the\namount of any retirement allowance he or she would otherwise be entitled\nto receive, pursuant to the applicable provisions of this chapter, an\nadditional pension for such service of one-sixtieth of his or her final\naverage salary for each completed additional year of service after\ntwenty-five years. § 384-a. Additional pension benefits for certain police officers after\ntwenty-five years of service. a. In the event a member of the police\nforce of the village of Hempstead, in the county of Nassau, who is\ncontributing to the retirement system under section three hundred\neighty-four of this chapter, shall continue in service after twenty-five\nyears of total creditable police service under such section in such\nforce, he or she shall receive, upon retirement, in addition to the\namount of any retirement allowance he or she would otherwise be entitled\nto receive, pursuant to the applicable provisions of this chapter, an\nadditional pension for such service of one-sixtieth of his or her final\naverage salary for each completed additional year of service after\ntwenty-five years. The participating employer in the case of any police\nofficer eligible for the additional pension benefit prescribed by this\nsection shall make additional contributions to the appropriate fund of\nthe retirement system necessary to pay the difference between the\namounts prescribed by this section and the amount the member would\notherwise be entitled to receive at the time of his or her retirement.\n b. The service in the police force of each member of such force\nentitled to additional pension credit under this section shall be\nterminated and he shall be retired on the first day of the calendar\nmonth next succeeding his attainment of age sixty-two provided however\nthat in the case of the chief of such force, his service shall be\nterminated and he shall be retired on the first day of the calendar\nmonth next succeeding his attainment of age sixty-five. Notwithstanding\nthe foregoing, during the period terminating March thirty-first,\nnineteen hundred seventy-four, such chief shall be retired on the first\nday of the calendar month next succeeding his attainment of age seventy;\nprovided that service rendered by such chief after attaining age\nsixty-five shall not be used to provide additional benefits, except that\nthe salary paid for such service may be used in the computation of\nbenefits.\n c. The provisions of subdivisions f, g, and h of section three hundred\neighty-four of this chapter shall not be applicable to the village of\nHempstead in the county of Nassau.\n
