§ 244. Lighting cars on elevated railroads in cities of over twelve\nhundred thousand inhabitants. Every corporation operating an elevated\nrailroad in any city of over twelve hundred thousand inhabitants in this\nstate, computed according to the state enumeration had in eighteen\nhundred and ninety-two, shall equip all cars used for the transportation\nof passengers with the most approved system of lighting passenger cars\nnow in use upon railroads, either by electricity or gas of not less than\neighteen candle power, and every such corporation is prohibited from\nusing kerosene or coal oils as a means of lighting any of its passenger\ncars.
