§ 36-A — Effective date of certain amendments to articles VI and VII

§ 36-a. The amendments to the provisions of sections two, four, seven,\neight, eleven, twenty, twenty-two, twenty-six, twenty-eight, twenty-nine\nand thirty of article six and to the provisions of section one of\narticle seven, as first proposed by a concurrent resolution passed by\nthe legislature in the year nineteen hundred seventy-six and entitled\n"Concurrent Resolution of the Senate and Assembly proposing amendments\nto articles six and seven of the constitution, in relation to the manner\nof selecting judges of the court of appeals, creation of a commission on\njudicial conduct and administration of the unified court system,\nproviding for the effectiveness of such amendments and the repeal of\nsubdivision c of section two, subdivision b of section seven,\nsubdivision b of section eleven, section twenty-two and section\ntwenty-eight of article six thereof relating thereto", shall become a\npart of the constitution on the first day of January next after the\napproval and ratification of the amendments proposed by such concurrent\nresolution by the people but the provisions thereof shall not become\noperative and the repeal of subdivision c of section two, section\ntwenty-two and section twenty-eight shall not become effective until the\nfirst day of April next thereafter which date shall be deemed the\neffective date of such amendments and the chief judge and the associate\njudges of the court of appeals in office on such effective date shall\nhold their offices until the expiration of their respective terms. Upon\na vacancy in the office of any such judge, such vacancy shall be filled\nin the manner provided in section two of article six.\n
