annual report.] It shall be the duty of the superintendent to provide a safe and convenient place for the keeping and preservation of all ordnance and quartermaster's stores received from the state for the use of the institution, and on and before the thirty-first day of December in each year, he shall make a report to the adjutant general of the state of all such stores on hand, and in such report he shall show their condition, whether serviceable or unserviceable, and if any of such stores should be lost or destroyed, the manner of their loss or destruction.
