§ 48:17-16 — When authorized; use of highways; consent of city

Every railroad company organized under the laws of this state, and every railroad company organized under the laws of another state but leasing or operating a railroad or canal in this state, may erect, establish and maintain lines of telegraph for public use, over, along or upon its land and right of way and over, along and upon the land and right of way of any other railroad company, with the consent of such other railroad company. It may erect, establish and maintain extensions of such telegraph lines in any direction for such distance as may be necessary to reach business centers, over, along and upon the public roads and highways of this state, or otherwise. The use of public streets in any incorporated city of this state for the erection of the extensions shall be subject to such reasonable regulations as may be imposed by the corporate authorities of such city.
