The cost of acquiring any lands, lakes, ponds, streams, flowage and other rights, as well as the cost of the maintenance thereof as a public park, shall be borne ratably by the municipalities adopting the provisions of this article, according to the then last preceding tax levy in each of the municipalities. The commission shall on or before August first in each year certify to the various municipalities the money which they are severally required to raise for the current year as their pro rata share of the cost of acquiring or maintaining such public park, and the various assessors shall include that amount in their tax levy for that year. The amount due from each municipality shall be paid over to the treasurer of the commission on or before January first following the levy and assessmen
