If a motor vehicle reported as being stolen is subsequently recovered, a certificate of ownership for the vehicle which had been surrendered to the director by a person pursuant to subsection a. of section 2 of this act may be issued by the director to that person only if: a. The person presents to the director a salvage certificate of title for the motor vehicle; b. The person presents to the director a report from the law enforcement agency which recovered the vehicle; and c. The vehicle passes an inspection at a State inspection facility to determine the accuracy of its vehicle identification number. L.1983, c. 323, s. 3.
