19:13-16. When a person nominated as herein provided by direct petition or State convention for election to public office at the general election shall, at least 81 days before the day of the general election, in a writing signed by him and duly acknowledged, notify the officer with whom the original petition or certificate of nomination was filed that he declines the nomination, the nomination shall be void. amended 1942, c.50, s.2; 1985, c.92, s.12; 2013, c.172, s.4; 2023, c.124, s.1.
