5.The requirements of this act shall not apply to: a. Depository institutions; but subsidiaries and service corporations of these institutions shall not be exempt. A depository institution may register with the department for the purpose of sponsoring individuals, licensed as mortgage loan originators subject to subparagraph (b) of paragraph (1) of subsection c. of section 4 of P.L.2009, c.53 (C.17:11C-54), provided that such registered entity obtains and maintains bond coverage for mortgage loan originators consistent with section 13 of P.L.2009, c.53 (C.17:11C-63). A depository institution registered with the department in accordance with this subsection a. shall otherwise remain exempt from the licensing requirements of P.L.2009, c.53 (C.17:11C-51 et seq.).
