All banks and trust companies and other banking institutions now or hereafter engaged in business in this state shall be and they are hereby likewise authorized with respect to funds of the United States government or of any agency or instrumentality thereof, or funds held under the provisions of the Bankruptcy Act and amendments thereof, or the provisions of any other act of congress, which may be deposited with them, to provide and maintain security for such deposits as may be by such laws required. All banks and trust companies and other banking institutions now or hereafter engaged in business in this state shall be, and they are hereby, likewise authorized, with respect to funds of any housing authority created under chapter 99 and amendments thereof, which may be deposited with them
