A county fire marshal for Aroostook County, in this chapter referred to as "the marshal," is appointed by the county commissioners with the approval of the Aroostook County Fire Chief's Association and holds office for 2 years and until a successor has been appointed and qualified. The location of the marshal's office is designated by the county commissioners. The marshal shall keep a correct account of all the marshal's doings. The marshal is entitled to receive from the treasury of Aroostook County an amount not to exceed $10,000 annually, which must include both salary and actual expenses incurred by the marshal in the performance of the duties of office. The municipal officers of the towns in the county may authorize the marshal to perform the duties imposed by sections 2394, 2395 and
