Section 15TTTTT. The governor shall annually issue a proclamation setting apart June 9 as General Sylvanus Thayer Day, in recognition of the birth of Colonel and Brevet Brigadier General Sylvanus Thayer, also known as the Father of West Point, on June 9, 1785 in the town of Braintree and who was an early superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point and who was also an early advocate of engineering education in the United States and recommending that the day be observed in an appropriate manner by the people.
