Section 17A.

(a)As used in this section, the following words shall have the following meanings:''Attending physician'', the emergency physician or consultant physician who actively treats the emergency medical condition of a beneficiary at an emergency facility.''Beneficiary'', a recipient of medical assistance or medical benefits pursuant to this chapter who is treated in an emergency facility for an emergency medical condition.''Emergency medical condition'', a medical condition, whether physical or mental, manifesting itself by symptoms of sufficient severity, including severe pain, that the absence of prompt medical attention could reasonably be expected by a prudent layperson who possesses an average knowledge of health and medicine, to result in placing the health of a beneficiary o
