Text

The petition shall be filed with the registrar of voters within ninety days after the date on which the first signature was affixed. The petition, when so filed, becomes a public record and cannot be returned to the proponents or signers thereof. The registrar of voters shall have the petition, including the names and addresses of the petitioners and the dates of signing, published at the earliest possible time in the official journal of the municipality or other political subdivision, at the expense of the governing authority charged with the duty of calling the election. The formal portion of the petition need be reproduced only once in the publication.
