§1601. Definitions; representation A. As used in this Chapter, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the term "police jury" means the governing authority of the various parishes. B. As used in this Part, the following words have the meaning ascribed to them in this Section, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:

(1)"Assessed benefits" means the increased value accruing to lands and other property by reason of the improvements set out in the plan for reclamation.

(2)"Owner" means the owner of record, and it shall not include usufructuaries, lessees, mortgagees, or trustees, who shall be considered as represented by the record owner for all purposes. C. B. As used in this Part, the following words have the meaning ascribed to them in this Section, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:

C. In all proceedings and matters had under the provisions of this Part, natural persons may be represented by their agents duly appointed, corporations by their officers or agents duly authorized by their board of directors, estates of deceased and interdicted persons by their legal representatives duly authorized by the court having jurisdiction over the estate, minors by their tutors duly authorized by the court.
