A. The board shall contract with and employ a port director. B.

(1)Except as provided in Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, the port director shall meet both of the following minimum qualifications:
(a)A bachelor's degree from a college or university that was, at the time the degree was granted, accredited by a regional or national higher education accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
(b)At least five years of experience in port operations, trade or industrial development, or business or public administration.
(2)Subject to approval by the board, alternative minimum qualifications for the port director shall be ten or more years of experience in port operations, trade or industrial development, or business or public administration, with such experie
