§2131. Central Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact; adoption The Central Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact is hereby enacted into law as follows: The party states recognize that each state is responsible for the management of its nonfederal low-level radioactive wastes. They also recognize that the Congress, by enacting the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Act (P.L. 96-573), has authorized and encouraged states to enter into compacts for the efficient management of wastes. It is the policy of the party states to cooperate in the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of their citizens and the environment, and to provide for and encourage the economical management of low-level radioactive wastes.
