§121. Authority to inspect prisons and hospitals; reports Each grand jury, except those impaneled pursuant to Code of Criminal Procedure Article 415.1, may inspect every prison, place of detention, asylum, and hospital within the parish and may report to the district judge how the prisoners and inmates of every such institution are treated. If the grand jury files a report, the report shall state, with regard to each public institution to which the report applies, the number of prisoners and inmates in every such public institution and the costs of maintenance and shall state the length of time that each prisoner awaiting trial, at the time of said report, has been so held for trial.
