Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, any member of the legislature who is not employed as a teacher but is a member of this system by virtue of having been so employed, may, at his option, contribute to the system the percentage set by R.S. 11:62(11)(c) of his legislative salary and expense allowance, plus the four percent that he contributes as a member of the legislature in accordance with R.S. 24:36. If he elects to so contribute, the house of the legislature of which he is a member shall contribute to the system a percentage of his legislative salary and expense allowance which is equal to the employer contribution rate for the Teachers' Retirement System.
