Text
(a)Appointments, promotions and reinstatements to all positions subject to the provisions of this act, and the rules made in pursuance thereof, shall be made from among those certified to the sheriff.
(b)The term of eligibility of applicants on original entrance and reinstatement lists and on promotion lists shall be one (1) year, but the term of any list may be extended by the civil service board. In no case, however, may eligibility be extended for a period of more than three (3) years.
(c)Appointments shall be made from the appropriate eligible list, but if no such list exists then the civil service board may certify from such other list as it deems the next most nearly appropriate. A new and separate list shall be created for a stated position only when there is no satisfactory list
