§ 19-1580 — Bonds for courthouse jail and sheriff's quarters; election

The board of county commissioners of any county such as described in K.S.A. 19-1579 is hereby authorized and empowered to issue general obligation bonds of such county for the purpose of providing funds to be used in addition to the funds now on hand or hereafter derived from a tax levy made to create a sinking fund, for the purpose of acquiring a site, the construction, furnishing and equipment of a combination courthouse, jail and sheriff's quarters building thereon. The total amount of bonds issued under the authority conferred by this act shall not exceed the sum of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) less the amount available for such purposes derived from tax levies made for such purposes as provided by law.
No bonds shall be issued under the authority conferred by this act unless and until the question of the issuance of the same shall have been submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of such county at a regular general election or at a special election called for that purpose, and a majority of those voting on the question shall have declared by their votes to be in favor of the issuance of said bonds. Such election shall be called and held, and said bonds shall be issued, sold, registered, delivered and retired in the manner provided by the general bond law. Bonds issued under this act shall not be subject to or within any bonded debt limitation fixed by any other law of this state.
