Any city operating under the provisions of this act may abandon the commission-manager, mayor-council manager or council manager form of city government in the same manner as is provided in K.S.A. 12-1039, and amendments thereto, for the adoption of such form of city government except as herein otherwise provided, and except that the word "abandonment" instead of the word "adoption" shall be used in the petition therefor, and the word "abandon" instead of the word "adopt" shall be used in the form of the ballot and in the election proclamation. If a majority of votes cast upon the proposition shall be in favor of abandoning the commission-manager, mayor-council manager or council manager form of city government, then the city shall operate under the alternative form of government establish
