§ 16-46-16-1 — Development of strategic plan; collaboration; workgroup; update of plan

(a) The state department shall develop a
strategic plan to identify and significantly reduce the prevalence of
diabetes and prediabetes in Indiana.
(b) In developing the strategic plan under subsection (a), the state
department shall collaborate with the office of the secretary of family
and social services.
(c) The state department shall establish workgroups to assist in the
development of the strategic plan. The members of a workgroup may
include the following:
(1) The commissioner or the commissioner's designee.
(2) The secretary of family and social services or the secretary's
designee.
(3) The secretary of education or the secretary's designee.
(4) The dean of the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks
School of Public Health or the dean's designee.
(5) Health care providers specializing in diabetes prevention,
screening, treatment, research, or education.
(6) Health care providers who provide direct patient care.
(7) Representatives of any medical, nursing, or dental school
located in Indiana.
(8) Middle school, high school, or college level health instructors.
(9) Individuals diagnosed with diabetes or at risk for diabetes.
(10) Public health advocates who work with diabetes or diabetes
prevention.
(11) Representatives of community based and faith based
organizations involved in providing education, awareness, or
support relating to diabetes.
(12) Any other persons the state department determines are
necessary.
(13) Public health advocates who work with individuals with
kidney disease.
(14) Representatives of organizations that address minority health
and health disparities.
(d) The state department shall update the strategic plan every two
