November 13th of each year is designated as Coal Miners Memorial Day to be observed throughout the State as a day set apart for appropriate ceremonies in honor and remembrance of the coal miners of Illinois who have given their lives while laboring in the mines for the welfare of their families and the prosperity of this State.
