§ 65-15

(Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028) Sec. 65-15. Expiration of APRN license; renewal. (a) The expiration date and renewal period for each advanced practice registered nurse license issued under this Act shall be set by rule. The holder of a license may renew the license during the month preceding the expiration date of the license by paying the required fee. It is the responsibility of the licensee to notify the Department in writing of a change of address. (b) On and after May 30, 2020, except as provided in subsections (c) and (d) of this Section, each advanced practice registered nurse is required to show proof of continued, current national certification in the specialty. (c) An advanced practice registered nurse who does not meet the educational requirements necessary to obtain national certification but has continuously held an unencumbered license under this Act since 2001 shall not be required to show proof of national certification in the specialty to renew his or her advanced practice registered nurse license. (d) The Department may renew the license of an advanced practice registered nurse who applies for renewal of his or her license on or before May 30, 2016 and is unable to provide proof of continued, current national certification in the specialty but complies with all other renewal requirements. (e) Any advanced practice registered nurse license renewed on and after May 31, 2016 based on the changes made to this Section by this amendatory Act of the 99th General Assembly shall be retroactive to the expiration date.
