Collecting information regarding hospital discharges and surgery. The Department of Public Health shall establish a system for the collection of data regarding hospital discharges and inpatient and outpatient surgery performed at hospitals and licensed ambulatory surgical treatment centers. The Department may establish a system to provide data to hospitals required for accreditation, including data required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Department may adopt any rules necessary to carry out this function, including reasonable fees for providing accreditation data. The Department may contract with a vendor to collect any data required to be submitted to the Department under this Section.
