a.Iflivestocktrespassesuponalandowner’slandorthelandownertakescustodyofthe
livestock, the landowner shall deliver notice of the trespass or custody to the livestock owner
within forty-eight hours following discovery of the trespass or taking custody of livestock
whichhasnottrespassed. Ifalocalauthoritytakescustodyofthelivestock,thelocalauthority
shall deliver notice of the custody to the livestock owner within forty-eight hours after taking
custody of the livestock. The forty-eight-hour period shall exclude any time that falls on a
Sunday or a holiday recognized by the state or the United States. The notice shall be made in
writing and delivered by certified mail or personal service to the last known mailing address
of the livestock owner.
