Text

The department shall implement a Next-generation Traffic Signal Modernization Program. The purpose of the program is to increase traffic signal interconnectivity and provide real-time traffic optimization to improve traffic flow and enhance safety. The program shall:

(1)Provide for retrofitting existing traffic signals and controllers and providing a communication backbone for remote and automated operations and management of such signals on the State Highway System and the nonstate highway system.
(2)Prioritize signal upgrades based on average annual daily traffic and the impact of adding to an existing interconnected system.
(3)Use at least one advanced traffic management platform that uses state-of-the-art technology and that complies with leading cybersecurity standards, such as
