Text

(a)Notwithstanding any provisions of the general statutes with respect to annual or biennial license or registration fees or occupational taxes, any resident of Connecticut on active duty with the armed forces of the United States shall be exempt from the payment of such fees or taxes during his period of active service and for one year following the date of his honorable discharge or the date of his release under honorable conditions, from such service.
(b)Any member of the armed forces of any state or of any reserve component of the armed forces of the United States who has been called to active service in the armed forces of any state of the United States shall be exempt from the payment of any fine or late fee assessed for failure to renew a motor vehicle operator's license or motor

(b) which exempted residents on active duty with armed forces in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm from penalties re late motor vehicle renewals and emissions inspection, and a new Subsec. (c) to permit persons who qualify for late fee exemption under Subsec. (b) and who have paid late fee to apply for refund of fee; P.A. 08-121 amended Subsec. (b) by replacing provision re resident of state on active duty with armed forces of U.S. during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm with provision re member of armed forces of any state or of any reserve component who has been called to active service in armed forces of any state of the U.S., changing “resident” to “member”, changing “resident returns to the state” to “member is released from the qualifying military service” and making technical changes, and deleted former Subsec. (c) re refund of late fee, effective May 27, 2008; P.A. 10-32 made a technical change in Subsec. (a), effective May 10, 2010.
