(a) The Department of Public Health shall establish a mandatory reporting system for healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance designed to prevent healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. Such system shall be based on nationally recognized and recommended standards. (b) The Department of Public Health shall post annually on the department's Internet web site information collected by the department pursuant to the mandatory reporting system for healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance established under subsection (a) of this section. Such information shall include, but need not be limited to, the following: (1) The number and type of health care associated infections and antimicrobial resistance reported by each health care facility; (2) links to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's health care associated infection data reports and the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' quality improvement program Internet web site; and (3) information to assist members of the public in learning about healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance and how to prevent such infections and resistance.
