§ 13a-262 — Program re work zone speed control systems in highway work zone.

(a)The department may establish a program to operate work zone speed control systems in a highway work zone, provided the department does not operate such systems at more than fifteen highway work zones in the state at any one time. A work zone speed control system may be used to record the images of motor vehicles traveling on a highway (1) within a highway work zone, and (2) on which the speed limit, established using generally accepted traffic engineering practices, is forty-five miles per hour or greater.
(b)A work zone speed control system may be used provided (1) such system is operated by a work zone speed control system operator, (2) if, in accordance with the manual of uniform traffic control devices as approved and revised by the Office of State Traffic Administration, at least

(a) to delete references to pilot program, replace provision re systems at not more than 3 locations with provision re operation of systems at not more than 15 highway work zones and replace reference to limited access highway with reference to highway and amended Subsec. (c) to replace provision re 15 miles per hour or more with provision re 10 miles per hour or more and replace provision re certifying system is operational with provision re written notice of date system will become operational to be provided to municipal chief executive officer at least 2 days prior to system becoming operational, effective July 1, 2024.
