§ 10a-72h — Oversight board and pilot program re technical high school courses for college credit.

(a)On or before September 1, 2009, the Board of Trustees of the Community-Technical Colleges shall appoint and convene an oversight board for the purposes of carrying out the provisions of subsection (b) of this section. Such board shall include:

(1)A representative of the faculty of Norwalk Community College;

(2)a representative of the faculty of the J. M. Wright Technical High School;

(3)four representatives from trade vocations;

(4)two representatives of the business community; and (5) a representative of a chamber of commerce. The president of Norwalk Community College shall serve as the oversight board's chairperson.

(b) On or before January 1, 2010, the oversight board established pursuant to subsection (a) of this section, in consultation with the Board of Trustees of the Community-Technical Colleges and the Commissioner of Education, shall establish, within existing budgetary resources and staffing levels, a pilot program to operate during the school year commencing July 1, 2010, and each school year thereafter, to allow students to complete courses at the J. M. Wright Technical High School for college credit at Norwalk Community College. Such program shall coordinate courses between the J. M. Wright Technical High School and Norwalk Community College and provide students with access to vocational employment or postsecondary education. (c) On or before June 30, 2011, and annually thereafter, the Board of Trustees of the Community-Technical Colleges and the Commissioner of Education shall report, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a , to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to education and higher education and employment advancement on the curriculum offered as part of the pilot program and the number of students who have earned course credit under the program established in subsection (b) of this section.
