The members of the New England Board of Higher Education shall be appointed as follows:

(1)The Governor shall appoint two members, who shall be the Commissioner of Education and the Chief Workforce Officer, or their designees;
(2)the president pro tempore of the Senate shall appoint three members who are residents of the state, one of whom shall be a member of the Senate and, upon the recommendation of the chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, one of whom shall represent the Connecticut State University System and one of whom shall represent the regional community-technical college system; and (3) the speaker of the House of Representatives shall appoint three members who are residents of the state, one of whom shall be a member of the House of Representatives, o

History: 1969 act decreased number of members appointed by governor from three to two, provided that president pro tempore of senate and speaker of the house appoint remaining members and revised provisions concerning terms of office; Sec. 10-318 transferred to Sec. 10a-62 in 1983 pursuant to reorganization of higher education system; June Sp. Sess. P.A. 21-2 replaced provision re member appointments by Governor with advice and consent of General Assembly and qualifications of appointees with provision requiring Governor to appoint Commissioner of Education and Chief Workforce Officer or their designees, amended provisions re qualifications of member appointments by president pro tempore of the Senate and by speaker of the House of Representatives, changed term of members appointed by Governor from 6 years to 4 years, added provision re persons appointed as of July 1, 2021, and made technical changes, effective July 1, 2021; P.A. 24-22 amended Subdiv. (2) by replacing “president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities” with “chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities”, effective July 1, 2024.
