(a)For the purposes of this part and the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (Part 1 (commencing with Section 5000)), the State Department of Health Care Services and the State Department of State Hospitals shall ensure that, whenever feasible, minors shall not be admitted into psychiatric treatment with adults if the health facility has no specific separate housing arrangements, treatment staff, and treatment programs designed to serve children or adolescents. The Director of Health Care Services shall provide waivers to counties, upon their request, if this policy creates undue hardship in any county due to inadequate or unavailable alternative resources.
