(a)The Legislature finds and declares that the citizens of California are in danger of being injured and killed in the state’s surgical suites and procedural rooms in licensed health facilities, because of the many intense heat sources present in an oxygen-rich environment. It is the intent of the Legislature that this section promote maximum fire and panic safety standards in surgical suites and procedural rooms in licensed health facilities, and other areas that pose a danger due to the presence of oxygen, in California.

(b)

(1)The state department, shall promote safety by requiring that licensed health facilities that have surgical suites and procedural rooms provide information and training in fire and panic safety in oxygen rich environments, including equipment, safety, and emerge

(a)

(b)
(1)
The state department, shall promote safety by requiring that licensed health facilities that have surgical suites and procedural rooms provide information and training in fire and panic safety in oxygen rich environments, including equipment, safety, and emergency plans, as part of an orientation for new employees, and ongoing inservice training.
(2)
The licensed health facilities described in paragraph (1) shall use the fire safety guidelines in oxygen rich environments published by the Association of Operating Room Nurses or any other nationally recognized body or organization, and approved by the state department.
(c)
The licensed health facilities described in paragraph (1) of subdivision (b) shall determine the modality of training and the number of hours of training required.
