(a)
(1)Each license issued pursuant to this chapter shall expire 12 months from the date of its issuance and each special permit shall expire on the expiration date of the license. Application for renewal of a license or special permit accompanied by the necessary fee shall be filed with the state department not less than 30 days prior to the expiration date. Failure to make a timely renewal shall result in expiration of the license or special permit.
(2)Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the license of a facility operated by a receiver appointed pursuant to Article 8 (commencing with Section 1325) shall not expire during the period of the receivership, and for 30 days thereafter.
(b)A renewal license or special permit may be issued for a period not to exceed two years if the holder of the
