Retired members of the system, and beneficiaries, who are entitled to receive allowances under the provisions of this chapter, may authorize deductions to be made from their retirement allowance payments, in accordance with regulations established by the board, for the payment of group insurance premiums and for dues or charges of a nonprofit membership corporation for the purpose of defraying the cost of medical services or hospital care, or both, under any plan approved by the Director of Finance. Those persons may also authorize deductions to be made from their retirement allowance payments, in accordance with regulations established by the board, for the payment of contributions for any health benefit plan coverage for which they may be eligible under the provisions of Chapter 1 (comme
