(a)A transportation planning agency, county transportation commission, or local transportation authority may, with the concurrence of the commission, request the department to make a portion of the cost of any project funded by a local entity that is included in the state transportation improvement program eligible for reimbursement by the federal government pursuant to Section 115 of Title 23 of the United States Code. The transportation planning agency, county transportation commission, or local transportation authority shall be responsible for the cost the department incurs in making the project’s cost eligible for federal reimbursement.
