Full Text

The Legislature shall, by general law, provide for the establishment, maintenance and support of free public schools upon such conditions and limitations as the Legislature may prescribe.

NOTE: The 1960 amendment to Section 201 of the Constitution was proposed by Laws, 1960, ch. 547, and, upon ratification by the electorate on Nov. 8, 1960, was inserted by Proclamation of the Secretary of State on Nov. 23, 1960, by virtue of the authority vested in him by Section 273 of the Constitution, as amended. The 1987 amendment of Section 201 in Article 8 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 was proposed by Laws, 1987, ch. 671 (House Concurrent Resolution No. 9), and upon ratification by the electorate on November 3, 1987, was made a part of the Constitution by proclamation of the Secretary of State on December 4, 1987.
