History

NOTE: Former Section 223 provided that no lease or hiring of penitentiary convicts after December 31, 1894, be undertaken unless in compliance with section 224 and that prior lease arrangements not extend beyond that date. The repeal of Section 223 of Article 10 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 was proposed by Laws, 1990, ch. 599 (House Concurrent Resolution No. 99, Part II), and upon ratification by the electorate on November 6, 1990, was deleted from the Constitution by proclamation of the Secretary of State on December 19, 1990.
