For the purposes of this subchapter: The term "controlled substance" has the meaning given such term in section 802 of title 21. The term "drug-related crime" means the illegal manufacture, sale, distribution, use, or possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute, or use a controlled substance. Effective Date of 1999 Amendment
Pub. L. 106–74, title II, §227(b), as added by Pub. L. 106–113, div. A, title I, §175(d), Nov. 29, 1999, 113 Stat. 1534, provided that: "The amendments made by subsection (a) [amending this section] shall be construed to have taken effect on October 21, 1998."
Effective Date of 1998 Amendment
Amendment by title V of Pub. L. 105–276 effective and applicable beginning upon Oct. 1, 1999, except as otherwise provided, with provision that Secretary may implement amendment before such date, except to extent that such amendment provides otherwise, and with savings provision, see section 503 of Pub. L. 105–276, set out as a note under section 1437 of this title.
Effective Date of 1996 Amendment
